# Chestnuts & Chinquapins

> Native chinquapins and blight-resistant chestnuts grown from seed, for nuts, wildlife and the pleasure of a chestnut in the yard again.

We grow four chestnut-family trees from seed. The native [Allegheny chinquapin](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/allegheny-chinquapin/index.html.md) is a small tree with small sweet nuts. Chestnut blight kills the stems of two more natives, [American chestnut](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/american-chestnut/index.html.md) and [Ozark chinquapin](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/ozark-chinquapin/index.html.md). The blight-resistant [Chinese chestnut](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/chinese-chestnut/index.html.md), the one non-native in the catalog, is grown for its large nuts rather than for restoration. All four are sold as saplings and as nuts to sow, and the group covers USDA zones 4 to 9. Saplings ship while dormant, and nuts ship whenever they are in stock. The [Chinese chestnut article](https://bluewhaletrees.com/articles/chinese-chestnut/index.html.md) covers its size, growth rate, bark and how it differs from the American chestnut.

Several values may be joined with commas.
