# Rare & Uncommon Oaks

> Scrub oaks, coastal-plain post oaks and southern white oaks you will not find at a garden center.

Thirty oaks, from shrub oaks of scrub and deep sand to canopy oaks of bottomland. Six are shrub oaks of 20 feet or less, among them [dwarf chinquapin oak](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/dwarf-chinquapin-oak/index.html.md) and [bear oak](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/bear-oak/index.html.md). The sand post oak and the Delta post oak are post oaks of deep sand and of bottomland. [Oglethorpe oak](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/oglethorpe-oak/index.html.md) and [overcup oak](https://bluewhaletrees.com/plants/overcup-oak/index.html.md) are big white oaks of wet ground. Saplings ship while dormant, in spring and fall.
