Chestnuts & Chinquapins

Native chinquapins, the American chestnut and the blight-resistant Chinese chestnut, grown from seed for nuts, wildlife and a chestnut in the yard again.

We grow four chestnuts and chinquapins from seed. The native Allegheny chinquapin is a small tree with small sweet nuts. Chestnut blight kills the stems of two more natives, American chestnut and Ozark chinquapin. The blight-resistant Chinese chestnut, the one non-native in the catalog, is grown for its large nuts rather than for restoration. All four are sold as saplings and as nuts to sow, and the group covers USDA zones 4 to 9. Saplings ship while dormant, and nuts ship whenever they are in stock. The Chinese chestnut article covers its size, growth rate, bark and how it differs from the American chestnut.
