Allegheny serviceberry is the mountain and northern cousin of downy serviceberry, distinguished by hairless, coppery new growth and juicier fruit. Both are excellent; this one shines where springs are cool. Multi-stemmed clumps make a natural screen; single stems make a small shade tree.
