Trees & Shrubs for Winter Interest
Native trees and shrubs with something to see in winter, from bark and berries to leaves that hold on.
We grow eighty-eight trees and shrubs with something to see after the leaves fall. Of these, thirty-six are shrubs, among them winterberry, witch hazel and red chokeberry. The trees run from striped maple and American hornbeam to yellow birch and American beech. Marcescence explains why young beeches and oaks keep their dead leaves all winter, and winter identification tells trees apart by bark, buds and twigs.
